Israelis have come together around the country to commemorate two years since the Hamas-initiated assault on October 7th, 2023, as discussions advanced in Egypt over an end to the war in the Gaza Strip.

The incident saw in excess of 1,200 people dead and 251 others captured away to Gaza as hostages. It was the single deadliest day for Jewish people since the Second World War.

Israel answered by initiating a military offensive in Gaza which has killed more than 67,000 people, based on figures from the area's Hamas-run health ministry. Its figures are seen as accurate by the United Nations and other world agencies.

"The violent opponents have caused great damage, but they have not defeated us," Benjamin Netanyahu added on Tuesday.

He also pledged to "accomplish all the goals of the war: the release of all the captured, the removal of the Hamas administration and the promise that Gaza will never again pose a risk to Israel".

Memorial Gatherings Across Israel

The Israeli government rescheduled formal remembrance events until 16 October - after the conclusion of the festive season - but events still occurred across the country on that day.

A memorial ceremony for the families of Israelis who died in the Hamas assault was conducted in the coastal city. Organized by the victims' relatives, it was televised on Israeli television channels.

Some time earlier, a minute's silence was held around the country.

Ceasefire Discussions in Egypt

Simultaneously, both sides' representatives convened in the Egyptian coastal city of the negotiation venue for a second day of mediated discussions to examine the conditions of the agreement.

A prominent delegate knowledgeable about the discussions indicated that an night meeting of mediated discussions began at 19:00 Cairo time.

The representative said the day's discussions ended without tangible results, amid conflicting views over the suggested Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas seeks to ensure Israel does not restart hostilities after the first phase of the arrangement.

He added that the negotiations are "difficult and have still not produce any real breakthrough," but pointed out that intermediaries are striving to narrow the differences between the conflicting groups.

Critical Issues in Negotiations

  • An enduring truce
  • The swap of the captives still held by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The removal of military personnel from Gaza
  • Arrangements for relief supplies deliveries
  • After-conflict management of the territory

Civilian Feeling

In Tel Aviv's memorial area that day, 29-year-old Hagar - whose sibling endured the incident on the Nova music festival, where many attendees were lost their lives and many more were taken hostage by Hamas gunmen - explained: "No place feels like home any longer and until each abducted person return not a single person will feel safe."

"Once we see everyone home returned, we can breathe once more. Then we can start to recover," she continued.

In front of the prime minister's home in the capital, people congregated to show their solidarity for the relatives of the abducted. Israel reports forty-eight remain in detention in Gaza, twenty of whom are considered to be alive.

Protester one woman explained: "It's necessary do every compromise necessary for the captives to come back home. But we truly desire assurances that we will be protected."

Research now consistently show that around the majority of Israelis prefer the hostilities to finish in as payment for the release of the abducted.

Gaza Circumstances

At the location of Nova festival, those paying respects came together to remember the victims.

From that location, the boom of aerial bombardments and artillery could be noticed just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where observers indicated the intense Israeli attacks persisted.

In the urban center, air and artillery strikes were noted in the dawn of Tuesday in the western district, area and locality districts and in the eastern neighbourhood of the community, as well the camp to the northwestern area.

"When the evening arrives, the fear arrives with it," relocated Gaza City resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose 17-year-old son was lost his life by an Israeli air strike previously, described.

"My family are fearful of the air strikes. Throughout the evening we are lying together, holding each other, notably my little child who places his head on me all night."

"Constantly we monitor the reports to see what happened. And I'm concerned that this ceasefire will not be achieved and that the war will resume to us."

Health Emergency

Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City reported it had accepted the remains of several people by the midday, including several who lost their lives in an Israeli attack in the south part al-Sabra neighbourhood.

Another medical facility in the southern city of that area reported another two victims had been brought there. An individual was lost his life by Israeli troops while looking for assistance to the southern area, medical staff reported.

The region's health ministry reported twenty-five of the {territ
