Antony Price, the visionary British fashion designer behind some of the most iconic looks associated with musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has sadly died at the age of 80.

Price was best known for his architectural shapes and theatrical styles, such as the light-hued ensembles that featured in the iconic band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance on social media."

Price's death comes shortly after he presented his most recent collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. The performer Lily Allen walked in a dress evoking the famous black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" made famous by Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price relocated to London at the start of the 1960s to attend the renowned Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he started his work in clothing for men at Stirling Copper and was responsible for the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger sported during The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show opened with creations worn by the famed model Jerry Hall, who later wore the marriage dress Price specifically designed for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A frequent collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price created the distinctive jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to blend menswear and womenswear along with his expert craftsmanship in crafting body-hugging looks cemented his status as a "genuine original," according to the British Fashion Council.

In the 1990s, he started creating outfits for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, which included several ensembles for her American tour after assuming the title.

With a vocation that covered half a century, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London recently in collaboration with the label 16Arlington.

  • Defined Shapes: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Dramatic Impact: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

The fashion world laments the passing to a genuine innovator whose impact on style and culture remains profoundly felt.
