An individual who contaminated candy with sedative and gave them to children at a summer program in Leicestershire has admitted sexual offenses against two boys who were nine and 10.
Jon Ruben was arrested after eight children and an older person fell ill at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.
The 76-year-old, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he was present at the courthouse on recently.
Yet, he disputed a single sexual charge he was accused of, which was concerning a young boy.
The defendant was held in detention prior to a further hearing on 28 November.
'Candy game'
The legal representative, prosecuting, outlined the criminal behavior to the court.
She said his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a summer program which he managed.
The man conducted a "candy game" with the minors, the legal counsel explained, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to ingest treats "as fast as possible".
She told the court Ruben had engaged in this activity with the boys "for many years", and children had earlier experienced illness the next day.
She stated the defendant had been capable of justifying this for many years as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his stepchild had worries in recently.
The prosecutor continued: "In the summer" his family member had suspicions about what was going on, justifiably.
"They resolved" to have a look in the individual's items."
The legal counsel explained objects including lubricant, Vaseline and injection devices were found, and his stepchild notified the law enforcement about his worries.
She stated the man continued to conduct the "sweet game" with six boys that time - July 26th - and they were all ill the subsequent day.
"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that time," she continued.
The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.
The legal representative stated the youngsters were having difficulty walking due to being ill, so Ruben's stepson notified the authorities a second time.
She explained the man then engaged in the "candy game" in a area of five children.
