Maddie McCann's twin siblings, Amelie and Sean, have told the court that their encounters with an accused harasser were extremely disturbing and creepy. They explained feeling stressed and scared by a woman who insisted she was their missing sister.

Relentless Contact Detailed as Frightening

Appearing remotely, Amelie stated how the accused, the 24-year-old, contacted her repeatedly through online platforms and letters. Amelie explained the persistence was quite scary because you don’t know what her next move might be.

Communications from the defendant were read in the trial, in which she recounted recollections of being in the family home that she claimed were recovered under hypnosis. Amelie told the court, It's very upsetting that she's inventing these supposed memories, even though she isn't Madeleine.

Altered Images Increased Distress

The court learned that the accused had created images of herself and Amelie as young girls, which the state said were generated with AI tools. A number of these images were transmitted through online channels, while additional ones were produced physically and enclosed in a letter to Amelie.

She said, It was unpleasant, it caused me to feel very uncomfortable. It was evident she edited the pictures to make me appear similar to her, which was very disturbing. I was aware I didn’t look like that, I understood it had been manipulated.

Emotional Impact on the Family

She also discussed the impact of the alleged harassment on her parent, their mother, who testified about being approached at home by the defendant and her co-defendant, Karen Spragg.

I think my mum found it the hardest. My mother was targeted by the defendant more than the rest of us and I believe it certainly had a negative effect on her and her mental health, Amelie said. It's distressing when a person is pleading with you to believe them and manipulating your emotions, to the extent you are questioning yourself.

Brother's Testimony on Anxiety and Online Attention

In a testimony read to the trial, her brother said that personally, he had not been severely affected by Wandelt's alleged harassment. But he had been upset that she was drawing social media scrutiny, with people saying nasty and unfair comments about his mother and father.

In the event that she was not mentally ill and was completely conscious she is not Madeleine, yet makes these claims, that will be very upsetting for me, he said. I do not believe she is my sibling. The fact that the defendant is doing this has caused me a significant amount of stress and I find it profoundly troubling.
