Donald Trump along with Japanese New Premier Exchange Compliments and Commit to Reinforce ‘Remarkable’ Relationship

In the course of a latest trip to Japan's capital, former American leader Donald Trump and Japan's new Premier Takaichi shared warm praise and pledged to enhance the already robust bilateral ties.

Key Points from the Meeting

Donald Trump praised Prime Minister Takaichi as a ‘exceptional’ figure and applauded her on assuming the role of Japan's first female prime minister. In their talks at the capital's official venue, Trump expressed optimism that she would prove to be one of the ‘great prime ministers’ of the country.

Takaichi, identified as a close associate of late Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, praised his initiatives to resolve global conflicts and reportedly vowed to put forward Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Economic and Defense Deals

The two governments announced a list of collaborative projects in sectors such as power, artificial intelligence, and rare earths. Japan-based firms are considering investments of up to $400 billion in the US.

Additionally, Japan had earlier committed $550 billion in long-term US investments, loans, and assurances as part of an arrangement to secure exemption from Trump's tariffs.

These moves are viewed as possibly easing any upcoming requests from the US side for Tokyo to boost its military expenditure. The prime minister responded to this by promising to accelerate plans to raise military budget to 2% of gross domestic product.

  • Indiana governor Braun declared a legislative meeting to reconsider congressional districts.
  • Democratic figures in various states are considering map changes in reaction to Republican efforts.
“Based on what I’ve heard from Shinzo and others, you are destined to be an outstanding prime minister,” Donald Trump told the prime minister. “I also want to congratulate you on becoming the first female prime minister. This is a significant achievement,” he added.

The meeting highlights the continuing significance of the US-Japan partnership and paves the way for additional cooperation on trade, security, and diplomatic areas.
