Democratic lawmakers Criticize Trump After He States They Should Face Execution

Democratic officials demonstrated anger after Donald Trump accused a contingent of Democratic legislators of being "betrayers" and stated they should be detained and sentenced "with execution" following their release of a contentious video.

The Message That Provoked the Controversy

The clip, shared on earlier this week, showcases six Democratic lawmakers who formerly worked in military or defense positions.

"As we did, you all swore an pledge to defend and defend this founding document," the lawmakers declared in the 90-second video. "At present, the risks to our democratic foundation aren't just from overseas, but from domestically. Our statutes are unambiguous, you can refuse improper directives, you can reject unlawful commands, you must reject unlawful commands. No one has to execute orders that contravene the legal system or our founding principles."

Trump's Angry Response

The clip seemed to trigger a furious response from the former president.

On later in the week, Trump wrote on Truth Social: "This constitutes SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these traitors to our Country should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In a separate message, he declared: "This represents really serious, and Dangerous to our United States. Their comments cannot be permitted to stand. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a additional message, he added: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!" He also shared a statement that stated: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Democratic Leaders Respond

Following Trump's remarks on Thursday, Top Democrats published a joint statement censuring the statements.

"Violent politics has no position in the United States," they declared. "Elected officials who appeared in the video all served our United States with exceptional patriotism and excellence. We unequivocally censure Donald Trump's offensive and harmful calls for execution against members of Congress, and appeal to GOP representatives to forcefully do the same."

The party representatives also stated that they had been in communication with protective services "to ensure the safety of these representatives and their families."

"Donald Trump must without delay delete these extreme online messages and recant his violent language before he causes harm," the declaration added.

Representatives' Firm Answer

The officials who appeared in the video also published a declaration.

"We identify as ex-military personnel and security experts who care for this United States and made an pledge to safeguard and uphold the constitution of the United States," they said. "Our pledge continues forever, and we intend to maintain it. No intimidation, pressure, or promotion of aggression will prevent us from that fundamental obligation."

"What's most telling is that the president considers it subject to penalty by capital punishment for us to reiterate the law," they added. "Military personnel should recognize that we have their support as they carry out their vow to the national charter and responsibility to adhere to only proper directives. It is not only the correct thing to do, but also our responsibility."

They continued: "Every American must unite and condemn the former president's calls for our murder and ideological conflict. This is a moment for ethical certainty."

Further Governmental Reactions

The Democratic Senate minority leader also censured Trump's remarks and published on digital platforms: "It's important to understand: the President of the United States is demanding the death of public representatives."

He added: "This represents an outright THREAT. Each congressional member, every Representative, the entire nation – regardless of party – should denounce this right away and unconditionally."

The GOP leader defended Trump's claim that the Democrats had participated in "treason", labeling the video as "wildly inappropriate", stating: "This constitutes very harmful, you have leading members of Congress advising military personnel to disobey orders, I think that's unprecedented in American history."

The GOP official also reportedly informed media outlets that in what he read of Trump's posts, Trump was "describing the violation of rebellion" but that "attorneys have to parse the terminology and decide all that."

Administration Response

During a executive branch meeting on that day, when asked by a journalist, "Is the president want to execute elected officials?", the executive branch representative responded: "Absolutely not."

"It's important to note about what the president is responding to," the spokesperson declared. "We see sitting members of the American legislature who coordinated to organize a video message to individuals of the US military, to active duty service members encouraging them to defy the president's lawful orders."

She stated: "The integrity of our military relies on the command structure, and if that structure is broken, it can result in casualties, it can lead to disorder, and that's what these congressional representatives ... are essentially promoting."
