🔗 Share this article Admittedly, it's Brimming with Gibberish, Extreme Hosting and Psychobabble. But I Do Love Meghan's Christmas Special. No considering the season, it's perpetually open season for scrutiny on the Meghan Markle's televisual offering, With Love, Meghan. Critics, both professional and armchair, have hardly ever agreed so completely as when eagerly tearing the lifestyle show's earlier episodes to pieces. The common opinion seemed to be a more egregious regal scandal had seldom occurred than the now-infamous pretzel-bagging incident. Currently, as a festive rebel, she is back for another round with a "Holiday Celebration" (also known as a holiday episode). Yet now, it's different. The usual elements viewers are accustomed to – psychobabble word salads, overzealous entertaining – remain, but set of a holiday show, suddenly it all makes sense. The elements have slid perfectly; it's a perfect snow storm. Now, Meghan has become the quirky relative at most festive family gatherings – offering unasked-for guidance, and contributing the periodic peculiar declaration. ("I love spinach!" … "A tradition has to have a beginning." … "A tree is part of my memory and love of the holiday season.") She's an interesting figure, but her presence is familiar and oddly reassuring. And she looks content; she's causing a bit of damage. She is aware her every micro expression, syllable and glance will be analyzed and criticised, but still appears carefree and remarkably at ease. Perhaps this is the first occasion in history where that well-worn saying – "Ignore them, they're just jealous" – might be true. The reason is, in all honesty, all aspects in Meghan's Holiday Celebration truly is lovely. Granted, it's all painfully excessive, nonsense and flamboyant – but isn't that exactly what the holiday season is about? And the words she speaks might be laughable, but the walk she's walking seems authentically beautifully curated. Anything she sets her mind to, she executes with flair. Her recipes looks tasty, the wreath she crafts is breathtaking, her gifts are almost too pretty to tear into. Not a single thing is mediocre or aesthetically displeasing – including the way she ties her apron is artful and chic. She doesn't throw a meal in the oven, it "goes for a spin", and she folds wrapping paper like an origami guru. She also seems to be thoroughly enjoying herself from start to finish. How could any cynical observer not be won over, overcome by festive joy and left with a powerful yearning for crafted festive snaps or a crudites platter where greens is organized in the shape of a festive circle? Meghan had a career in acting for a living, naturally, but despite that, after the degree of scrutiny she has endured since she met Prince Harry, a theoretical combination of Meryl Streep and Judi Dench would find it hard to appear this authentically. Her refusal to alter or even tone down her shtick, despite it being so persistently, globally mocked, is strangely reassuring. In our volatile world, here is something we can rely on: Meghan will stay true to form, no matter what. We will consistently know what to expect with her. If you're still not buying what she's selling, a point that will certainly come as a comfort: you don't have to. The UK has abolished the draft in this country, and should it be reinstated, it would be unlikely to include watching With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration. If, however, you willingly check it out and are gripped with longing about her flawless Christmas, all is not lost either. If you are a royal or a data administrator, no kid completely grasps the dedication and labor their mum expends in the holiday season. So you can find comfort by envisioning her children's faces when they unfold a calligraphy note that says, 'I love you because you are brave,' from a DIY festive calendar, instead of a sweet treat.
